We have some exciting news to share with you that we think is both fantastic for SpatialOS and for every developer currently using the platform.
Here is a quick update from our CEO Herman Narula:
"Today, Improbable has announced a $502m Series B funding round, led by SoftBank. Our Series A investors Andreessen Horowitz and Horizons Ventures are both joining this round with follow-on investments, and we are very grateful to all our investors for their support.
Andreessen Horowitz led our first series A investment. Horizons Ventures, who led a further Series A round, also invested in us at the seed stage and have been with us through every round. The advice and support of experienced investors such as Solina Chau, Chris Dixon and Marc Andreessen, along with many others, has been invaluable.
We are now excited to add the support of Masayoshi Son and SoftBank to realizing our vision of massive scale virtual worlds and the transformative impact they can have on how we live our lives.
I am delighted to say that none of our investors or founders will be selling any of their stakes as part of this round – we intend to fully dedicate this investment to building our business and technology. We are excited to also announce that Deep Nishar from SoftBank will join the board at Improbable.
At Improbable we are working towards a future in which participatory virtual worlds and simulations of unimaginable scale become ubiquitous. We think this is potentially as exciting and important a technical development as work on AI or the Internet of Things.
We think that the games of today are an incredibly exciting medium, but also that they will evolve into massive worlds and offer meaningful experiences for a much broader segment of society than previously imagined. It’s our goal to solve the critical technical problems and unlock that future.
Now we have the resources to fully realise that vision over the long term with our growing ecosystem of partners. This investment further cements our long term commitment to working with the games industry to create the experiences of tomorrow.
Over the longer term, we are also excited by the potential of our technology to inform the understanding of real world systems and their emergent complexity. We are already working on projects with telecommunications companies, governments and other enterprise clients to explore the ability of massive, detailed simulations to drive better decisions using real-world data and hope to talk more about this in the future.
To achieve both these ambitious goals, we need to take bold steps. This investment gives us the ability to take those steps.
We have a long way to go, but this will accelerate our journey enormously, and we are looking forward to sharing more on our technology roadmap and our plans shortly."
