Join our “Get Started” with SpatialOS for Unreal 2019.1 livestreams

Hey all Unreal devs, :slightly_smiling_face:

The eagle-eyed amongst you may well have spotted this already but I’m very excited to say that, starting next week, we’re running a series of livestreams to help you get started with the new releases of SpatialOS for Unreal 2019.1.

As we dig a bit deeper into the tech behind the features, we’re hoping that it will help you to build, develop, launch and run your online multiplayer game.

There will be four livestreams in total, with the first one kicking off on Thursday, 15th August 2019. You can check out the line up of livestreams we’ve got planned and register to join them now.

We’ll kick off our stream next week with Release Overview: SpatialOS for Unreal 2019.1, a virtual unboxing of the update. The team will be looking into new features such as offloading, simulated players, matchmaking services and lots more.

For those new to SpatialOS or for devs already building with our tech, this is going to be the perfect opportunity to learn more about SpatialOS for Unreal 2019.1 and what it can do for your Unreal project/game.

Each livestream will also have special speakers from our expert team of engineers and game developers. We’ll be answering your questions, so register now, tune in next week and join us for our inaugural SpatialOS “Get Started” livestream!

I’ll also update on this thread every week to remind you when the next livestream is happening so that you don’t miss out.

Please tell us if you enjoy the livestreams, give us constructive feedback or suggest topics that you’d like us to stream about - we’d love to hear them!

See you all next week on the Release Overview: SpatialOS for Unreal 2019.1 livestream!

Hi all :slightly_smiling_face:

Previously, in our first livestream, we “unboxed” the SpatialOS for Unreal 2019.1 release and took a look at the new features, including offloading, simulated players and matchmaking services.

In our next livestream, we’re going to be taking a deeper look at offloading and seeing how SpatialOS for Unreal 2019.1 enables more flexible game architecture by allowing you to offload computation for elements like AI - which in turn, can enable an increase in game scale and complexity beyond a single dedicated Unreal server.

Our tech team will be online to delve into this feature as well as to help answer your questions. We will also have a special guest joining the stream team. Peter Burzynski, co-founder and Director of Engineering from Midwinter Entertainment, who are building their upcoming game, Scavengers using the SpatialOS GDK for Unreal will also be lending his expertise. Be sure to tune in.

Register now for the livestream and join us on Thursday, 28th August at 6PM BST / 10AM PST - see you then!

Hey all,

I just wanted to share the videos of the past two livestreams here. For those of you who may have missed them the first time around, you can catch up on them now:

Livestream: Release overview - SpatialOS Unreal 2019.1

  • A virtual unboxing of SpatialOS for Unreal 2019.1. We do an overview and take a look at new features such as offloading, simulated players, matchmaking services and more.

Get started - flexible design and offloading:

  • We dive into how SpatialOS for Unreal empowers more flexible game architecture, by allowing you to offload computation for things like AI. This can enable an increase in game scale and complexity beyond a single dedicated Unreal server.

Don’t forget to join us for our next livestream on Thursday, 12th September, where we’ll be looking in detail at simulated players with SpatialOS Unreal 2019.1.

Hey all,

Our third livestream in the “Get Started” with SpatialOS for Unreal 2019.1 series is happening next week, on Thursday, 12th September, 6PM BST / 10AM PST.

Tune in with the team as they look at fast iteration, as well as how you can scale test your game early and often with simulated player services on SpatialOS, using representative player behaviour that’s much easier to amass into a playtest.

The livestream will feature a special team guest - Aaryn Flynn, General Manager from our Edmonton studio and previously General Manager of BioWare (the studio behind hugely successful game franchises Dragon Age and Mass Effect). Aaryn will be sharing his experience on using SpatialOS and - as a developer - what it can enable with fast iteration.

Don’t miss out - join us next Thursday at 6PM BST / 10AM PST!

Hi all,

In case you missed last week’s livestream on fast iteration and simulated players, you can catch up with it now via our YouTube channel:

Get started - fast iteration with simulated players

  • We look at how SpatialOS for Unreal 2019.1 can help you with fast iteration and game testing with simulated players. This means using representative player behaviour that’s much easier to corral into a playtests. We also look at tools and features like metrics and logs, the Inspector and more to help you scale-test quickly and efficiently as you develop your game.

The next livestream is going to be the last one in the “Get Started with SpatialOS Unreal 2019.1” series so don’t miss it. We’ll be talking about matchmaking and our online services. You can register now so you don’t miss out  - see you then!

Hello all,

The fourth and final livestream in the “Get Started” with SpatialOS for Unreal 2019.1 series is next week - don’t miss it.

If you haven’t caught up on the previous livestreams, just check them out on my previous post in this thread

Hello all,

For everyone who registered and watched our livestreams, there’s one last thing to check out!

At the end of our last livestream, you would have seen that we mentioned a survey and an opportunity to win some exclusive SpatialOS T-shirt and more.

As part of our efforts to know how we can better support our developers, continue iterating our software to make it the best it can be, it would be a huge help if everyone who watched the livestreams could help us answer our survey questions.

This should only take 5-10 minutes and we’d really appreciate your feedback and insight! To say thank you for taking the time to answer the questions, we’re giving away some exciting prizes.

The first twenty (20) people to answer the survey will automatically nab an exclusive SpatialOS t-shirt. Everyone who answers the survey will also get their name put in a sweepstakes for a chance to win one (1) premium SpatialOS prize bag (with items like a travel bag, gaming pills, water bottle, embossed notebook and more). Only people who complete the survey will be eligible. We will email the winners after Nov 1st.

Thanks all and best,
Nee
